If you’re feeling overwhelmed…

July 21, 2025

Digital harassment, threats, and other types of attacks can lead to intense emotions and anxiety. You might feel guilty, ashamed, anxious, nervous, or simply confused about what’s happening. Sometimes, you may feel helpless or that your physical and emotional well-being has been affected. These feelings can be different for everyone and in every situation.

Remember, there is no “right” or “wrong” way to react. Everyone’s personal data and its level of vulnerability are different, and unpleasant situations can affect people in different ways. Any emotion you feel is valid — you don’t need to worry whether your emotional reaction is “correct” or not.

First and foremost, remember that blaming yourself won’t solve the problem. You can reach out to someone you trust — for example, an older friend — who can support you both technically and emotionally.

To prevent or respond to an online attack, it’s important to collect as much information and evidence as possible — such as screenshots, recordings, or photos. If there’s someone you trust, you can do this together with them.
